He was married to Kaganovich's daughter. He's the first Soviet musician to win a prize at an international competition. Upon his return from the competition, he was greeted like the first cosmonaut of the USSR. Accompanied by an honorary motorcade, he rode in a convertible to the Kremlin, where he was awarded Order of the Badge of Honour and received the keys to an apartment in the center of Moscow., USSR, 1937
