It was published in the year of his death. Alexandre Iacovleff (Aleksandr Yevgeniyevich Yakovlev, 1887–1938) was a Russian painter, graphic artist, master of drawing, and theatrical designer. He was one of the most prominent painters and draftskamen in Russian art of the first third of the 20th century, representing the Neo-Academic movement. From 1919, he lived in Paris. In 1924–1925, he took part in an expedition to North and Central Africa. In 1931–1932, the artist embarked on an expedition to Eastern countries, visiting Syria, Iran, Afghanistan, Mongolia, and China. His travels resulted in series of artworks, which were predominantly ethnographic in nature. He was awarded the Order of the Legion of Honour.
