Jegorov Andrej Afanasjevitch (1878-1954), Laundresses, the beginning of the 20th cent., paper, mixed tehnique, tempera, 33 x 53 cm, Andrei Afanasyevich Egorov (1878-1954) was a painter. He painted landscapes, scenes of rural life and portraits. He was a descendant of Tver peasants who were resettled by Peter the Great in the vicinity of Revel. Studied at the Drawing School of the Society of Artists (1898-1901) and the Academy of Arts as an auditor from 1902 under I. Repin. He received the title of artist in 1909. He was a member of the A.I. Kuindzhi Society from 1911. His paintings were first exhibited at the Academy of Arts' spring exhibition in 1908 and then at the exhibition of Russian artists in London in 1913. He also exhibited at the exhibition of Russian artists in London. During the Civil War, he was an artist in the Political Department of the renowned 1st Cavalry Army. From 1921 onwards, he lived and worked in Estonia. In the post-war years, he started painting works on political and historical themes. His works are held in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Tallinn Art Museum, and the Tartu Art Museum.
